Long story short. Many hardships prior to 2020. But this one impacted me the most. I am a local teacher in Sarasota. March 2020, school was closed for a week for Spring Break. COVID hit at the same time. School stayed closed . The crazy time of COVID. In May if 2020 I was not feeling well, stomach issues. Went to the drs and they suggest I have the dreaded colonoscopy. They immediately found a tumor which was cancerous. Went thru chemo radiation and surgery in October of 2020. My health declined rapidly. 14 surgeries in 3 years. I had to have two colostomy bags and one ileostomy bag. Had sepsis . Was never allowed to return to work. Big financial burden. Went through 2 surgeons because they didn’t know how to help me anymore snd now with a new surgeon in Tampa. Spent the better part of three years in a hospital bed. Isolated and home bound for the next year. Last hospital stay for a week in September of 2025 . Rushed to Tampa General. Had to have a scope procedure and during the procedure my colon was perforated. Sent me home , not knowing. Went to ER 5 days later in horrific pain. Because of the perforation I got subcutaneous emphysema. Two issues going on. Perforated colon and subcutaneous emphysema, both are fatal. Rushed to TGH. Survived again, to the one too many times I was told, might not make it. My health issues continues. I am on limited diet and under drs care still. Huge financial burden. I didn’t plan on this and had to use savings to pay bills. Many medical bills.! My quality life certainly has been compromised due to health issues. I have to pass up many fun times and vacations. This causes depression which I go to a therapist once a week. It’s tough!!! I understand many people are in financial situations. I was a single mom (still am) the whole time my daughter was growing up. Lost my first child due to open heart surgery. I just need a break. Someone to say “we have your back”. Receiving this roof would take a huge weight off my shoulders and reduce the stress level I am at. Being a teacher is a rewarding career , giving back to the community. I am now hoping the community will help me. I truly hope I am a candidate in this project. Thank you for your consideration. Dear Curry Cares Team, It is with deep love and hope that I nominate my mother, Fran Marx, for the blessing of a new roof through the Curry Cares program. For over 40 years, my mom has quietly lived out the very spirit of what Curry Cares represents — caring for others, strengthening the community, and serving with humility and heart. In the late 80s to mid 90s, she owned and operated Pretzels on Parade at the original Gulf Gate Mall. For many, it was just a pretzel and lottery shop. But for my mom, it was an opportunity to connect with people, brighten someone’s day, and build relationships that extended far beyond a transaction. She poured herself into her small business and into the Sarasota community that supported it. Her true calling, though, was working with young people. As a teacher and counselor at Sarasota Military Academy, she dedicated herself to guiding students through some of their most formative and challenging years. She listened when others didn’t. She gave encouragement when confidence was low. She believed in students who struggled to believe in themselves. Generations of Sarasota youth were shaped by her patience, compassion, and steady presence. Today, at 78 years old and widowed, my mom lives alone on a fixed income. She has always been careful, responsible, and resourceful, always finding a way. But her roof is nearly 40 years old, and the current roof-over is more than 23 years old, far beyond its intended lifespan. It is no longer a repair issue; it is a safety and security concern. The cost of replacement is simply more than she can manage. Curry Cares is about restoring homes — but even more than that, it is about restoring peace of mind and reminding people they are not alone. After a lifetime of giving to others, my mom now finds herself in a season where she needs the support of the very community she has faithfully served. Receiving this blessing would mean more than a new roof. It would mean stability. It would mean safety. It would mean knowing that kindness comes full circle. Thank you for considering Fran for this incredible gift. No matter the outcome, we are grateful for the work Curry Cares does to uplift families in our community. My very deserving friends Lisa and Myra Moore need your help. Their roof was damaged during Hurricane Milton and has still not been repaired. Lisa gives of herself every day operating her own her salon serving the elderly in Sarasota and her local nonprofit Blaze of Hope in memory of her son. Hello there and Thank you for this wonderful Blessing that you're able to help folks out with! My dearest Mom will be 80 years old soon. Unfortunately Mom recently lost her husband and is trying to keep things in order the best she can. I am a single mom trying to keep afloat as it is... If things were different, I'd pay for her roof 10xs over and cover all repairs as well as all her needs, if I could. Please Pray with me, that one day I can do this for her!!! Well in all honesty here, she needs a roof, it's old and barely held up during these last few storms/hurricanes and most likely won't hold up much longer. She's extremely scared every time we have storm/hurricane warnings here. Mom is on a fixed income and pushing along like most of us are doing but unfortunately a replacement this steep in price isn't something she can afford. I humbly ask for your help. Please.
